a16z officially establishes an office in Seoul, initially focusing on the cryptocurrency sector
According to Chosun Biz, Silicon Valley's top venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has officially established an office in Seoul. This comes about six months after announcing its expansion plans in Asia last December. a16z stated that South Korea's global competitiveness in AI, manufacturing, defense, cryptocurrency, content, and consumer goods, along with its excellent technical talent and market acceptance, are the main reasons for choosing Seoul as its strategic base in Asia. The Seoul office will initially focus on the cryptocurrency sector, with plans to gradually expand its business scope.
a16z has previously invested in global tech giants such as SpaceX, Instagram, Facebook, and Airbnb. The newly appointed a16z Head of GTM for Cryptocurrency in the Asia-Pacific region, Park Sung-mo, will be based in Seoul and will leverage his experience at Naver and the Monad Foundation to support a16z's portfolio companies entering the South Korean and Asian markets. a16z stated that it will go beyond simple investment, providing support for business growth through talent recruitment, business development, policy collaboration, media support, and building a community of partners.
